    The Book

In India, outsourcing is now being widely practiced by almost all Banks. As per the RBI norms, banks cannot outsource their core management functions. Core management functions include risk management and internal audit, compliance and decision-making functions such as determining compliance with KYC norms. But in order to concentrate more on core activities banks outsource most of its non-core activities. Usually, banks outsource activities like ATM cash loading, ATM software, network management, loan verification, loan recovery, advertisements, etc. Outsourcing of these activities enables the banks to maintain competitive edge, to better serve its customers, to reduce the work burden of its employees, to earn cost advantage, etc. But outsourcing could also create some negative effects such as banks losing control over the outsourced activities, the job opportunities in the banking sector getting reduced, knowledge regarding outsourced activities could be lost, an increase in the number of default cases, etc. At this juncture, through this book, the authors have made an attempt to examine a comparative assessment of the areas of outsourcing, the motivational factors behind outsourcing and the satisfaction level of various beneficiaries on the outsourced activities of the select banks from the private and public sector in India in general and in Kerala in particular.

The book comprises eight chapters including an introduction and summing up. It is hoped that the book will be useful to Government and Policy makers, Administrators, Managers and Customers in Banking Sector, Academicians and Researchers in Commerce, Economics and Management Studies and other Stakeholders.
