    About the Book :
The book presents a meticulous elucidation of the link between climate and weather sensitivity for household electricity demand. It concentrates on uncertainties compounded by the projected electricity demand and the possible climate change impacts that are likely to increase in the near future. The book uses empirical and secondary data to understand household usage and practices to comprehend the relationship between weather and climate change and the electric power consumption. The relationship between temperature and electricity demand in non-linear as household electricity demand is positive to temperatures in summer and negatively related to temperatures in winter. Therefore, climate change is expected to reduce electricity consumption in winter and increase electricity consumption in the summer. Also, people will respond positive to temperature increase and decrease beyond the threshold level to an increase in income as adaptation measures to get comfortable indoor temperature along both intensive and extensive margins of adjustment. During summer months, people may acclimatize by using existing cooling equipment more intensively on a hot day and in due course they may choose to buy an air conditioner to ease expected reduction in comfort due to changing climate. In fact, climate will determine the stock of electric equipment and the weather decides the utilization. The significance of the study is that household electricity consumption has more spatial-temporal heterogeneity influenced by consumer behaviour than that in other sectors. The main emphasis is on the stock of electrical appliance and electricity consumption concentrates on consumer behaviour besides other determinants.

The book is written and designed for researchers in energy and environmental economics, academicians and also policy-makers. The author adopted a kind of descriptive and diagnostic approach and a wealth of information that make the book unique in coverage as well as approach. A systematic analysis is made through collecting information about weather related variables and electricity consumption of households in different seasons of a year. The comprehensive treatment of the stock of electric appliances and their electricity consumption combining immediate past consumption history and the wattage of electricity consumption make this book unmatched and more realistic than the contemporary models.
