The Book
“Ecological Study of the Delhi Ridge Forest Ecosystem” delves into the intricate balance of biodiversity and ecosystem functioning within one of the most important ecological zones of Delhi, the semi-arid Delhi Ridge forest. This work underscores the pivotal role that biodiversity plays in human survival, economic sustainability, and ecosystem stability, emphasizing forests as complex and rich ecosystems essential for maintaining life on Earth (Singh, 2002).
This book focuses on the semi-arid forests of the Delhi Ridge, part of the Aravalli range, which supports tropical dry deciduous thorn forests. The research investigates the impacts of seasonal changes on soil nutrients and plant biodiversity within the Northern and South-Central Ridge areas of Delhi. By studying soil elements like Carbon (C), Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P), Potassium (K), Sulphur (S), Sodium (Na), Magnesium (Mg), and Calcium (Ca), the research provides insights into how these factors influence floristic composition and species diversity over time.
The primary goal of the study is to explore how temporal and seasonal variations in soil nutrients affect plant communities, aiming to provide essential knowledge for the sustainable management and conservation of semi-arid forests. This research highlights the significance of semi-arid ecosystems in maintaining ecological balance and offers practical approaches to preserving them in the face of increasing environmental challenges.
Through detailed field experiments, the book not only expands our understanding of semi-arid forest ecology but also presents valuable strategies for protecting these vital ecosystems for future generations.
