The story of his life is a brilliant saga of a multifaceted genius who played a very important role as a jurist, economist, politician, social reformer and a Constitution maker. He dazzled the social and political firmament of India and left behind an indelible stamp in the national life. He was posthumously conferred the ‘Bharat Ratna’, the highest civilian award for his seminal contribution to national life. This book is the record of the relentless struggle that Ambedkar waged for the elimination of manifold social injustices and discriminations to which the depressed or backward classes of our society have been subjected for ages together. He came to realize from his experiences that these social maladies were the inevitable consequences of ‘graded inequality’ which is an offshoot of caste system prevailing in our society. He felt the need for the transformation of our society without which the upliftment of the untouchables can not be done. All his social crusades were directed towards the achievements of this goal. When Ambedkar was engaged in framing the Constitution of India, he had at the back of his mind, the welfare and upliftment of the socially downtrodden people. He incorporated many provisions and safeguards in the Constitution to create a ‘just society’ in which the untouchables will be able to live a life of dignity and respect like the rest of the Indian people. About the Author
Dr. Sumita Sinha, M.A. Ph.D., is currently Associate Professor & Head, Department of Political Science, Raiganj University, P.O. Raiganj, Dt. Uttar Dinajpur (W.B.). Dr. Sinha has a teaching experience at the College and University level for nearly four decades. She has carried out extensive research and has to her credit a long list of research publications in leading professional national and international journals. She has participated in different National and International Seminars. Her areas of interest are: Indian Government and Politics, Political Thought, International Relations and Comparative Politics. She has so far supervised many M.Phil. and Ph.D. Scholars. Dr. Sinha is a Life Member of the Indian Political Science Association.
