The present book throws light on the system of Panchayati Raj in India in general and in West Bengal in particular. It focuses on the role of women in politics and women empowerment. In the hierarchy of the system of the Panchayati Raj, the Village Panchayat stands as the lowest unit. There is a Panchayat for each village or a group of villages in case of the population of these villages happens to be too small. The Panchayat chiefly consists of representatives elected by the people of the village. On the part of women, they form a vital but vulnerable section of society. She is a pivot round which the whole family revolves. Family is considered the cradle of the society. In a country like India which boasts its glorious heritage, where women has not only enjoyed equal status but has been described in the annals of history as more than the better half.
About the Author
Supartha Ghosh, M.A. Ph.D. SACT-1, Dept. of Political Science, Gazole Mahavidyalaya, Malda (W.B.). He was head in charge, Department of Political Science from 2006 to 2016. He is also Library in-charge of Gazole Mahavidyalaya from 25/11/2006 to till date and N.S.S. Programme Officer of Gazole Mahavidyalaya. He is also associated with various examination works of the University of Gour Banga, Malda. He has a good number of publications to his credit. He has also attended a huge number of seminars and Conferences across the country. He is a life member of the Indian Political Science Association.
