    About the Book

This book Contours of Economic Thoughts: Classical, Keynesian, Post-Keynesian and Neo-Classical provides a concise and analytical overview of four major schools of economic thought. Aimed at students, educators, and anyone interested in the evolution of economic theory, the book explores the philosophical foundations, core principles, and policy implications of Classical, Keynesian, Post-Keynesian, and Neo-Classical economics. Classical thought, emerging in the 18th and 19th centuries through figures like Adam Smith and David Ricardo, emphasized laissez-faire policies, the invisible hand, and long-run market self-regulation. Keynesian economics, introduced by John Maynard Keynes during the Great Depression, shifted focus to aggregate demand, fiscal policy, and government intervention to manage short-run fluctuations. Post-Keynesian thinkers such as Joan Robinson and Nicholas Kaldor built on and critiqued Keynes, introducing ideas like effective demand, endogenous money, and income distribution, while highlighting historical time and institutional factors. Neo-Classical economics, developed by Alfred Marshall, Leon Walras, and others, refined Classical ideas using marginal analysis, rational behavior, and equilibrium theory, forming the basis of much of modern economic analysis.

By systematically presenting and comparing these schools of thought, the book aims to trace the development of economic ideas across various historical and social contexts. It encourages critical thinking by examining the contrasts between different theoretical approaches and equips readers with a strong conceptual framework for engaging with current economic issues and policy debates.
