    The Book

    The book “Breaking Chains : A Sociological Exploration of Independent Women in the Workplace” deals with the conducive conditions and impediment in the making of working women. In other words, this work attempts to understand the social process of making an independent woman. It has also been attempted to link the process of making with the social, and economic background of working women. This study concerns working women in an industrial metropolitan setting, as working women there face more contemporary challenges.

    The study has been divided into seven chapters. In the First Chapter, a review of sociological studies on women at work has been given with a view to formulate the research problem and objectives, sociologically. The Second Chapter described precisely the methods and techniques used in the present study. The social profile of the working women studied has been analyzed. In the Third Chapter the social profile of working women in industrial settings has been focused on. The Fourth Chapter gives information on the making of working women. The Fifth Chapter analyses the motivational, conducive conditions and the impediment factors of working women. In the Sixth Chapter, the problems of working women in industrial settings have been discussed and in the last, Seventh Chapter, an interpretation of the findings has been reported as Conclusion.

    Dr. Richa Srivastava is an esteemed academician currently serving in the Law department at JIMS Engineering Management Technical Campus, Greater Noida (Affiliated to Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi), known for its commitment to providing quality education and fostering academic excellence.

    She holds academic Degrees [B.A. (Isabella Thoburn College (LKO). M.A. in Sociology from Lucknow University, Ph.D. (Sociology from Lucknow University, LLB (IAMR Law College affiliated with CCS University, Meerut (U.P.), LLM in Criminology from Kamkus College of Law affiliated with CCS University.] Her educational background reflects a strong foundation in sociology, law, and criminology, laying the groundwork for a successful academic career. This multi-disciplinary approach equips her with a unique perspective that spans social sciences and legal studies, providing a solid academic foundation for her future endeavours.

    With a passion for teaching and a commitment to shaping the future of aspiring legal professionals, Dr. Richa Srivastava brings 16 years of teaching experience to the classroom. Her expertise extends to Criminology, Criminal Law, Sociology, Constitutional Law, and Prevention of Sexual Harassment at the Workplace (POSH) enriching the learning experience for students.

    As an academic, Srivastava is actively engaged in research, with a particular focus on Criminal Justice System Reforms, Social Movements and Legal Change, Legal Rights and Access to Justice for Vulnerable Populations, Intersectionality of Gender and Crime, etc. Her contributions to the field have been noteworthy, with publications in reputable journals and participation in conferences.
