    The Book

    This book Basic Economics-1 is written keeping in mind the nationwide curriculum restructuring initiative by the National Educational Policy 2020. In fact, Karnataka is the first state to implement the NEP. The implementation of NEP 2020 has given the great opportunity to make the structure and syllabus of economics more dynamic and rigorous. Therefore, keeping in mind the aspirations of the NEP, it is a modest though determined effort to be serve as a text book for B.A., B.A. (Hons.), B.Sc. (Hons.), B.Com., B.B.M., B.B.A. courses in Karnataka’s new curriculum and Indian Universities; Ph.D. scholars and other research areas in economics and finance.

    This book is also useful for the competitive examinations. The main aim in writing this book is to present a simple, clear and systematic explanation of Basic Economics-1. Each chapter has been written with utmost care and required information has been collected from authenticated sources.

    The Author

    Dr. B.M. Nasir Khan, born and brought up in Baballi Village of Bhadravathi taluk  of Shimoga District in Karnataka. Dr. Khan has a brilliant academic record with a 9th rank in B.A. and 1st rank in M.A. (Economics) from the Kuvempu University (Karnataka). He has got Rupla Naik gold medal, Paasban gold medal and National Talent Scholarship for getting rank in B.A., and M.A. He had participated in college level, university level, state level and National Level N.S.S. camps as a volunteer and got many awards including best volunteer in Jammu and Kashmir. He has also got NSS best officer award. Dr. Khan was also worked for various research projects at ISEC (Institute for Social and Economic Change) Bangalore. He got his Ph.D. from Kuvempu University for his thesis “Public expenditure on education and health during the economic reforms regime in Karnataka”. Dr. Khan is presently working as coordinator, Department of PG. Studies in Economics at Sir M.V. Govt. Arts and Commerce College, New Town, Bhadravathi.

    Dr. Khan is an Executive Committee Member from Karnataka (elected for 2nd term) to the Indian Economic Association and has been presenting research papers in various seminars and conferences in India and abroad. He has presented papers in Punjab University Chandigarh; Mohanlal Sukodia University, Udaipur; Bharatiya Vidyapeeth, Pune; KIIT, Bhubaneshwar; Gitam University, Vishakhapatnam; Meenakshi University, Kanchipuram; CESS, Hyderabad; Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati; Nagarjuna University, Guntur; Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore; Presidency College Chennai; Pandit Ravishankar Shukla  University, Raipur (Chhattisgarh) and Ambedkar University, Muzaffarpur (Bihar).

    He has also participated and presented Research paper in 17th World Congress of International Economic Association that was held at Dead Sea, Jordan.  Dr. Khan has also got full financial assistance from the organizers in Germany to present his paper at an 34th  International Conference in Dresden in Germany. He is a prolific writer, written many books and has more than 35 papers published in reputed, UGC journals, Care list and refereed journals. He is an active life member of Kannada Sahitya Parishat and also two time secretary and presently Vice-president of Taluk Kasapa.
