About the Book
This book, “Adivasi Movements in Dooars and Terai of North Bengal” comprises eight chapters that discuss the social movement and various types of movement in North Bengal at different times. This book focuses on the lives of tribal people in the Dooars and Terai region. This book addresses tribal issues relevant to socio-economic development. Mainly focused on the nature of the Tribal movement, which stated that when the Gorkhaland movement tried to include the Dooars and Terai region under their Gorkhaland, in this situation, the tribal peoples resisted them. They separately started their own movement under the umbrella of ABAVP as an NGO, but gradually, the ABAVP leaders came to an understanding with the leading government in West Bengal, from time to time.
The primary data have been collected from nine blocks in the Dooars and Terai region. The study analyzes the educational conditions and political participation of the tribal people and the Leaders of ABAVP.
About the Author
Dr. Purnima Roy obtained M.A., M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of North Bengal. Her specialisation is in the Adivasi (Tribal) movement in North Bengal. She has published a huge number of research articles in different national and international journals and chapters in edited books. She has also contributed huge number of papers in National and International Seminars and Conferences.
